Burwell Area Activities
You’ll find plenty of things to do around the Burwell area. Spend a day at the Civil War era Fort Hartsuff, go tubing down the North Loup River, take a horseback ride through the sandhills, or play a round at the Calamus Golf Course.
-
Burwell Park
Located directly off of the North Loup River, the Burwell Park is a great area for a family gathering or to take the kids for an afternoon of fun. The Burwell Dam and adjacent pond make for some good site seeing. The playset, swings and frisbee golf are great fun as well!

Calamus Lake Water Play
You don’t need a boat to enjoy the sandy beaches of the Calamus Lake. There are many areas to park your car, walk to the beach, and set up your day camp. Every last inch of the 20+ mile shoreline is sand so there is room for everyone!

Calamus Lake Water Sports
The Calamus Lake is approximately 10 miles long and 1.5 miles wide with many coves tucked away. Virtually every water activity can be enjoyed… skiing, tubing, jet skiing, sailing, fishing, or just swimming. With the white sand beaches, pull your boat to the shore wherever you like and enjoy!

Calamus River Tubing, Tanking & Canoeing
This is a family favorite for us every year! Take a few hours or a full day to float down the Calamus River. The slow winding turns provide amazing scenery, wildlife, and tons of fun! The Calamus River is virtually all sand and barely gets waste deep so it’s perfect for “kids” of ALL ages.

Dining Options
The Burwell, Taylor, & Ord communities provide a tremendous variety of dining options. You can go for a simple burger, the world’s best pizza, or an evening of fine cuisine. Top it off with a ice cream soda… yum!!!

Gracie Creek Pond
At the northwest end of the Calamus Lake is the Gracie Creek Pond. Fed by the Ogallala aquifer, the Gracie Creek winds through the sandhills, collects in the pond and then gently runs into the Calamus Lake. The Gracie Creek Cabin directly overlooks the pond for some amazing views and activities!
-
Hunting
There’s plenty of wildlife in the areas adjacent to the Gracie Creek Cabin… and where you find wildlife, you’ll find great hunting options! Make your own arrangements or set up a guided tour.
